The real deficit hawks are not members of the Republican Party.
For during the heyday of the W. administration with its ginned up and unpaid wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, coupled with a zip, nada, rien payment plan for tax cuts for those who earn over $250K annually and a hair brained scheme to throw in an unfunded Medicare entitlement program for seniors, hells bells, the GOP supported all of the above.
With no plan in place to pay for any of the above.
How's that for fiscal conservatism?
Nor was there a plan in place to pay for the bailout to the unregulated Wall St. bank robbers in the fall of 2008 when they recklessly gambled away and lost a huge chunk of the global economy.
The W. Administration and Dick Cheney bailed out bank robbers while sticking we the wee ones, who do not have off shore tax safe havens in the Grand Cayman Islands, with the bill.
Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) outs the Republican hypocrisy on the federal deficit.
GOP Translation: deficits don't matter for the 1% because our party will stick the burden of the deficit onto the shoulders of the 99% of the middle class, the working class and impoverished Americans.
By the way, no one should be appalled or caught off guard when the 99% occupy folks roar back with a vengeance in the spring.
The Republican Party has always been there for the 1%. This is what it does.
But one has to give credit where credit is due. For one has to hand it to the GOP for convincing so many of the 99% to throw their own economic interests under the bus by supporting a bunch of politicians who will use and punish them, time and time again.
President Obama inherited a far bigger economic and foreign policy mess than anyone predicted....
The Republicans obstructed our first black president far more ruthlessly (and with racist overtones) than any (sane) person would have predicted...
President Obama's "friends" on the Left were as shortsighted and mean-spirited as his enemies on the Right...
And until the Occupy Wall Street Movement came along the President wasn't getting the help he needed from the street to make the unfairness of American life that he's trying to fix into an issue.
The President - thanks to Occupy Wall Street - now controls the debate with the handy phrase of "the 1% v the 99%." Occupy Wall Street did more for moving the country foreword and did more to help President Obama, than all the President's lefty critics combined.
Occupy Wall Street is doing what MLK and the civil rights movement did for Johnson: it provided the heat Johnson could then use to move his agenda forward. Obama too now has the wind of change at his back.
