His poll numbers are plummeting to the point that Perry lags behind President Obama.
Oh who would have thought it possible?
The Washington pundits pilloried Rick Perry on the Sunday talk shows. I guess the hot air bloviates for Rick Perry got it wrong when they promoted Slick as the savior for the Republican Party of losers and sold out idiots.
Pundits on Fox News, ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN took turns belittling Perry's presidential potential - after having built it up for much of the past two months. ABC political reporter Jake Tapper declared that Republicans are "worried about his electability."
"When I talk to Republicans they don't sound very happy with the Republican field that is running," "Face the Nation" host Bob Schieffer said on CBS.
Fox News' house liberal, Juan Williams, used Perry's candidacy as a cautionary tale for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who is re-considering his earlier decision to stay out of the White Houses sweepstakes.
"He (Perry) gets in and it's a big flop," Williams declared on Fox News Sunday.
"Rick Perry's a kind of case-in-point," NPR's Mara Liasson chipped in later. "You have to be prepared."
I guess Rick Perry's ideologies and politics are just too scary for pundits and voters outside of Texas.
Poor Rick Perry thought he could easily preen, charm and tall tale his way through the 2012 Republican Presidential primary cycle. Unfortunately for the Governor he has not been outside of his impenetrable Texas Republican bubble much. Rick Perry spends so much time with his crony donors that he obviously has no clue what the other 99% of the population believes.
And this is why his record is sinking his campaign outside of Texas. Heck, even Texans who voted for him are sick of Rick Perry by now. This is especially true after his ruthless and unnecessary budget cuts to schools, fire fighters, medicaid and insurance for impoverished children, to name just a few. I am sure all of the fired teachers and firefighters who voted a straight R ticket in 2010 are having a pang or two of remorse. By now they must realize that they voted themselves straight out of their jobs.
It certainly did not take his Republican opponents long to figure out just how Rick Perry operates. Below follows an attack ad from the Romney campaign. Not that Romney would be any better than Perry. He might have a slight improvement in the having a heart department since then Governor Romney did provide health care for the the people of Massachusetts. Of course having a fraction of a heart is better than having no heart at all, which is the case for Rick Perry and Dick Cheney.
As it turns out, the oily holier than thou Romney has other plans for Social Security. He would turn it over to the bankster gamblers on Wall St. Republicans have been trying to do this since the day FDR signed social security into law. Republicans can't stand it that the middle class can have a safety net. Folks can actually retire without having to go into abject poverty.
Blind trust in Wall St.
The GOP apparently has not learned one lesson from the global melt down of 2007 and 2008 when an unchecked, unregulated Wall St. ran amok.
Whether or not it is Rick Perry or Mitt Romney both candidates are a lose lose for the American people because neither candidate has no intention whatsoever of working for 99% of the American people.
Florida Democrats were quick to criticize Romney. Three hours before his event, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a Florida congresswoman and chair of the Democratic National Committee, spoke to reporters on a conference call and said Romney was in favor of "dismantling" Social Security and letting people invest retirement funds in the stock market.
"Mitt Romney would have you believe this is a government handout," Wasserman Schultz said. "Mitt Romney would rather carry water for the tea party and leave seniors to fend for themselves in the private market."
Ron Kirk, the top Texan in the Obama administration, today compared Gov. Rick Perry's presidential candidacy to a comet that burned bright but is now flaming out.
"Too often the brightest stars are comets. But they flame out the fastest because they consume themselves on their own energy. I think there are some lessons to be learned there in life and in politics," Kirk told reporters aboard Air Force One returning to Washington after three events in the Dallas area. "How quickly and how brightly we burn."
Bumble, Stumble and Fumble.
Rick Perry has bombed three debates so far. The reason the Governor lacks debating skills is because he avoids them like the plague. He refused to debate former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bill White ostensibly because White did not disclose his tax records prior to his service as mayor of Houston. Rick Perry also refused to meet with the editorial boards of Texas newspapers. This should have set off alarm bells throughout the state. What is the Governor hiding? Is the Governor afraid of getting a question he does not want to answer? Could it have something to do with the persistent rumors about his personal lifestyle habits and preferences?
And now during the Republican Presidential primary season the good people of Texas are finding out who the real deal is.
After three Presidential debate debacles we now know why Rick Perry refused to do the same with Bill White. Of course since the Governor spends most of his time doing deals with fat cats he is capable of very little else.
Rick Perry does excel at raising boatloads of money for his campaigns. This is how he won every election so far in Texas. His fat cat donors will write check after check to get the tool they want the most in power.
A political journalist gives pointers as to how Rick Perry can salvage his campaign. Money factors in of course.
Raise a ton of money.
Former Texas senator - and unsuccessful presidential contender - Phil Gramm once remarked that "ready money is the mother's milk of politics." If that's true. Rick Perry has quite a cow. Perry, Gramm's former econ student at Texas A&M, raised Perry some $17 million in the first eight weeks of his campaign. That can help him finance an air war to buff up his tarnished image and a ground war through local organizing. Other than Romney and Texas Rep. Ron Paul, no other candidate currently has the resources to compete with Perry. As Politico's Ben Smith reports today: "The money won't fix Perry's problems, but it will help remind people following the contest that they have two candidates to choose from, and it gives Perry space to breathe."
Lovely. Rick Perry took an economics class from Phil Gramm. This might explain the Governor's D in the Principles of Economics I. Readers may recall that it was then TX Senator Phil Gramm who is responsible for the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act which once regulated Wall St. In 1999 the belief held among Dick Cheney and the GOP was that the banks would regulate themselves.
Right.
The banks did such a great job of regulating themselves that their dastardly deeds robbed 99% of the American people of their hopes, dreams, homes, jobs, a college education for many and savings. There are consequences when a robbery of this magnitude goes unchecked.
The Republican Party is a wholly owned subsidiary of Wall St. Rick Perry's record tells us that the Governor, if POTUS, would be among the most willingly owned.
